Phil, Great work as usual. The most simplistic issues are so much more complex when implementing into practice. It is cause for public confusion and in some cases mistrust. My fear is that with many of your points of thought and what you have learned is that so many of us stop short of fully realizing the impact of these concepts and beliefs. As you know, I am an old war horse in school reform and improved work we provide our students. But if we do not take pause and understand the deliberate and meaningful work and the depth of the knowledge base that you and others have provided us over the years our work tends to be counterproductive. It truly is about learning. I continue to read, analyze and even get mad at your thought provoking work. But you continue to make us better. Warm regards, Neyland

In a former role as Director of Technology for a public school district, I was called upon to speak to a large public audience about our instructional technology planning for the next five years. Out of a need to organize my own thoughts and to make sure I covered the different subcomponents of the project, I came up with a simple phrase as a memory aide for myself. I used the phrase "WAN, LAN, BOX and PLAN during my speech, and many other times over the following five years. Others on the team picked up the phrase, and before I knew it, that simple summary was in print in many surprising forms. In addition to a good "slogan", it also allowed others to form understanding and commitment, as they could see more clearly their role in the project, or their place within the structure. I really agree with you that once a complex concept can be distilled down to an acceptable core idea, even as a simple phrase, it is easier for an organization to successfully implement the change.

Hey, Phil! Enjoyed this piece. You are right. The notion of learning platform vs teaching platform has more "sticktoittiveness." I appreciate all you have done to make the transformation begin. Lots of work ahead. Isn't it great we get to do this sacred work!
